Croydon Branch Celebrating 50 years.   1956 - 2006

Transport Information

The Branch currently runs one vehicle, which is a Ford Transit.  The vehicle was purchased in 2006 with the help of a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Croydon South who raised the last £10,000 needed to purchase the vehicle.  It is fitted with seven seats and spaces for two wheelchairs. There is a rear hydraulic lift plus a side step entrance.

The vehicle is well maintained and fully equipped with the appropriate safety equipment and we have a tradition of maintaining a light cheerful atmosphere on our journeys round the highways and byways of Croydon. The Branch has a small group of dedicated volunteers who drive for us on a regular basis.

Transport Requests

If possible when requesting transport for visits to hospitals etc., give as much notice as possible and we will then do our best to organise this for you.

When requiring transport for Branch events such as outings and Branch social events, again please give as much notice as possible.

Volunteer Drivers

The Branch will arrange and pay for a two day MIDAS training course for volunteer drivers so that they can be confident driving the vehicle, operating the wheelchair lift and fitting the wheelchair seatbelt restraints. On group trips, they are assisted by at least one escort.

There are a range of driving opportunities from regular fortnightly events, through bi-monthly day trips to the ad hoc part day trips usually to medical or respite facilities but we would expect all volunteers to drive reasonably frequently to maintain the learning achieved during their training.

If you know anybody who might be interested in joining our band of volunteer drivers, please contact Tony Wiseman on 01883-331166 or Brenda Buckley on 020-8689-3189.
